EATING AND DRINKING:

 

Provisions can be bought at Uig Community Shopwhich stocks everything from essentials to local specialities, and is a five minute drive away.  There is also a Post Office, cash machine, laundry and petrol available at Uig Shop.

 

For eating out, Uig Sands is a licensed restaurant, near the Community Shop at Timsgarry.  It specialises in local produce and seafood, and has outstanding views out over Uig Bay.  Reservations are essential.

 

Uig Community Centre Museum and Tearoom, at Timsgarry (01851 621 422), also close to the shop, were you can buy soups, sandwiches, cakes and coffee. It's open April to September, 12pm to 4pm, Monday to Saturday.

The Edge Cafe, at Aird Uig, offers delicious home-cooked food, and baking in a lovely, cosy setting.  Booking for evening meals essential.

There are also numerous restaurants and cafes in Stornoway, about 40 minutes drives away.

 

For whisky connoiseurs, Uig is home to the Outer Hebrides only legal distillery, Abhainn Dearg.  The distillery is open for informal visits, tours and tastings.

 

 

ACTIVITIES:

 

Seatrek, for island and wildlife trips, fishing trips, and also longer trips to
the Flannans.

 

SurfLewis, for surfing lessons and equipment hire.

 

An Lanntair, for exhibitions, art, cinema, live music and food.

 

HebCelt Festival, music and arts festival every year, in July.
